Nice color, but my hair says ouchSo, my hair was BAD. My roots were really grown out and my hair color was turning into a copper mess, so I knew it was time for a change. I planned on going to the salon, but grad school is not only taking my money, but also my time away from me. I decided that this was the next best thing. The positives, best website ever. I really felt like my hair was being taken care of by my colorist. The color matched for me was ideal. Also, 10/10 for packaging and cuteness. I felt like it was *made for me.* Customer service is on a whole other level. I was reading reviews, waiting for my package to arrive and noticed others said the dye made their hair feel gummy. I was told by customer service to prep my hair with a hair masque the night the night before. I followed those instructions and prepped my hair. BUT my hair was really left feeling thirsty and sad. As I was shampooing the color out in the shower, I said goodbye to multiple strands of hair that didn't survive the battle. A week later and my thick hair just feels dull. I was hoping I could rely on this service for all of my color needs, but I might be giving up. Ruin my expense Japanese straightening workI straighten my hair too and it is a constant struggle for me. Results are just as promisedBest natural color ever....dating back to when I was in my early 30's! I had my hair cut (unusually) short to make sure that I would have enough coloring agent.....could have left it 'mid-length' as there was colorant to spare! Wow, I am over 70 and have never had such a beautiful hair dye experience....have done it at home for 20+ years. Color setIm impressed with how much longer my hair color lasts as compared to the store bought boxed color i used to purchase. The tone is a lot less brassy (I'm a redhead) and looks much more natural. Im on my 3rd or 4th kit n still trying to perfect my personal color preference as well as application process as its always turning out a little too dark for me. But i sincerely believe thats because MAYBE I'm not doing it applying it perfectly correctly yet. Its a learning curve. Mahogany redI don’t color my hair often since I have little gray. And when I do, I dye it myself at home (typically soft black). My 50th birthday is coming up so I wanted to have a big change and go with mahogany red. I felt that my best results would be to have my hair colored professionally. And thus I came to eStudio Color Studio. My experience over all was pleasant and welcoming. The salon is beautifully appointed and clean. My colorist was polite, professional and quite helpful. We discussed my wishes and she explained that she couldn’t give me a lighter shade of red given my dark base. I told her that this was perfect as I wanted a dark shade of red. I showed her some internet pics and said that I wanted “Mahogany Red”. After two hours of processing, shampooing and styling, I was ready for my results. My hair looked beautiful, shinny and nicely styled but it wasn’t RED! My hair looks soft black which, I could have done myself at home!! 😩 I was tired and hungry at that point and the only thing that I managed to say is that it looked too dark. The colorist said that I could go back and get a “light set” at my next appointment which may give me more of a red hue. My mom was with me at the appointment and on our way out she said “I heard you ask for Mahogany Red but I just don’t see it, maybe in the sunlight??!” But no, not in the sunlight either. Purple tone - no purple at allOrdered the purple toned hair color. Did a test strip and loved it - purple color came through and looked great after rinsing and drying it. Sticky/ waxy residue is extremely frustratingI have been using e-salon for over a year now. I really like the custom color; I have medium, ashy, brown hair that tends to become brassy with store-bought hair color so when the e-salon colorist added enough ash in my second order the color was almost identical to my natural hair avoiding undesired brassiness and giving me soft and shiny hair. The gray coverage is also excellent (I am in my early 30's but have had grays since 19 so I know the deal!). Anyway, for all these reasons I put up with a big inconvenience: having to wash my hair at least 5-6 times to get the sticky/waxy residue off my hair. I initially contacted customer service and they suggested to use bicarbonate and to rub my hair with some of the product left in the bottle immediately before washing my hair but that only reduced the # of washes from 7-8 to, as I said, 5-6 times. It has become extremely frustrating to spend so much time, effort, shampoo and water just to color my hair (especially during this time of the year where it grows like crazy) so it does not make sense for me to continue using it as much as I like the other features. I also wonder if the color would stay even longer if I didn't have to wash my hair that many times the first day I apply the color. 0 of 0 people found this review helpful. Did you? |

Dark but vibrantFirst let me say I was VERY impressed with the kit. Bravo! Due to extenuating circumstances I could not color right away unfortunately. I’ve colored my hair at home many times but I must say this was my messiest application. Probably mostly my fault. I got color all over the bathroom. I liked the way the color rinsed out pretty easily. The finished color came out darker than I expected so I may try to change that before you ship my next order. The color was nice in that it had high and low lights and it blended well. I would suggest longer gloves lol. I’m hoping after a few washes it lightens up a little and more red shows through. I have only a little gray right in the front of my hairline so I was disappointed when I still saw a few gray hairs after coloring. That was the first place I put color so I’m sure I gave it ample time. Overall I really liked the product. I only gave it three stars though because of the darker than expected color and the few grays still showing. Completely different colour.I had very light blonde hair, and decided to try this product to go a deep mahogany with a red tint. I was so excited! The package was fab and everything arrived when it said it would. I followed all the instructions to the letter as I didn’t want to get anything wrong, even had a friend help so I didn’t miss any bits. Washed and dried my hair, and it’s rose gold at best. It literally looks 3 shades darker, and a little warmer. My partner literally said he couldn’t see a difference... I will never try this again! Faded so fastUpon first inspection I was so excited about this! The packaging was so cute and it really seemed promising. I’ve been coloring my own hair for more than 10 years so I was excited about the possibility of something even better! After washing and drying I was pretty happy. The color was mostly what I expected. I went from a very light blonde to a dark copper blonde. Two days later after washing my hair it seemed a little lighter. Now it’s 10 days later and my hair has basically returned to its original light blonde. It has completely faded back to my original color within a week!When I first did the color on January 11th, I was thrilled with the results. I followed the directions to a tee. The color was just as described. Not even 3 days later I noticed it was getting much lighter. I used the red enhancing shampoo in the shower that day and it was a litter better but not like day 1. Today is day 8 and the only color that is in my hair is on the roots. The rest is completed gone. I used a high end color shampoo and conditioner whenever I wash my hair. With all my other colors I usually went 6 to 8 weeks in between coloring. This one I'd have to do it every week. Sorry but I won't be using this again. Hair continues to come up too red/goldMy hair was a hodgepodge of gray and dark blonde roots and over processed ends. The formula did a really good job of bringing all the colors into a nice blend. I really love the addition of pearl for shine. Even though I cautioned the colorist in my notes that my hair comes up very red, the formula was not cool enough and processed too much red/gold. A neutralizing shampoo helps to tone that down. I sent pictures and feedback and am hoping my next formula will give me the cooler, shiny beige I'm looking for.I'm sorry to say the next formulation and the one after that did nothing to address the brassiness. I'm giving it one more shot, asking for a cooler formulation in hopes that we can get this right. I like the idea of this service. 😊 12/1/17 update: The last formulation came up a Carmel color on my roots. Still too much red, but better. I’m giving it one more shot. I’ve asked for an ash color base in hopes that it will neutralize the red. What happened?So I’ve been using e-salon for a while and have had great results. I decided to be adventurous because I believed that I would get similar results considering I’ve had a good experience with the last formulas I’ve used. Well, I decided to try and go for a deep auburn. I received my color as well as a gloss for the part of my hair that was already colored. The formula was great! The initial results were beautiful, I loved the deep red I got...the only problem I had is that it didn’t last after my first wash! I use the Joico color endure shampoo so I highly doubt that was the cause for my beautiful red now being back to the brown it was before. My roots are still a bit red but my ends are brown. Made hair too dry but color spot onColor was spot on. Not too strong of an odor. Shampoo and conditioner smell great. Did had a few spots of breakage in my hair where a few very small knots or tangles came out in chuncks. The product needs a better conditioning or protection to it. My gray just won't grab the colorOverall your product is great hair color and love the shampoo and conditioner. My problem continues as it did when buying boxed hair color. I am so gray resistant that even leaving the color on only roots longer than advised does no different. I am very good at painting color in 1/8 inch sections like a professional and use very good color hair shampoo and conditioners. Within 3 shampoos, i am spraying or painting in a temp color. Your team has been great trying to help as I have now used your product 3 times. I will not give up yet! Determined there is a formula to color me at least 2 weeks. Really unhappyI've been working really hard to get my hair to go red. It's been three years of slowly getting my hair a nice, deeper red color. And having used this dye - my hair is more purple-brown than red. The quality of the dye seemed fine, and it didn't feel off in any way. It was simple and easy to use. I'm just really not satisfied with the way the color came out. I do really like the shampoo and conditioner that was sent with it though. Tried ESalon Root Touch UpI tried esalon root touch up and was happy with coverage there was still spots of white and gray hair that it did not cover and the conditioner leaves a nasty residue on hair that left white things on my hair and left it sticky that I had to take another shower and wash my hair. I wanted to absolutely love it.....butI was so excited after I read all the reviews here to get this but it didn't do what I was expecting it to. Here is the realistic feedback. The great and the not so great. SO... Customer Service was outstanding through my process. I called about my color, I got an email follow up... GREAT NEW, these folks seem to care a lot about their customers. I discussed my concerns for my super long thick hair and they really took great care of me! For the hair color...Eh. My hair was colored last year at the salon using Aveda color. It was close to my real color buy my grays were starting to show and I wanted a bit of change in color from auburn to golden mahogany. My hair was in good/great shape. It's SUPER long and thick and I am obsessed about keeping it healthy. I got this shipment very quickly which I was please about. However when I used the product the ammonia about knocked me out. It was so overwhelming, I had to open windows and vent. I guess because I had to use 3 bottles to put on my long hair. I am not sure. LOVE the instructions, they were clear and concise. I followed them to a T. The color is ok but the absolute worst ,and why I gave this 2 stars is what it did to my thick shiny healthy hair. It totally dried my hair out like I have never experienced before. Previously after any color my hair is shiny and glossy and the color looks fresh, especially right afterwards. This did not look anything like that. I almost cried when I saw the damage it did to my hair and how lifeless it looks.. My hair feels like straw now. Super damaged and not shiny at all. Color selection was ok, what is NOT OK is how dull my hair looks. Its no longer soft and shiny its dull and lifeless. Husband loves the color,its ok, but what it did to my hair is NOT EVER going to be worth it. I don't understand where the shine is and I will now have to go spend 100 at the salon for them to fix this dull mess. Very saddened and heartbroken! Not UN-satisfied, but not completely satisfied, either...It was fun receiving my eSalon purchase in the mail: impressively put-together package! The personalization was awesome, and made me feel special! Getting to the directions--I had to read and re-read them several times. It just seemed as if some steps were not spelled out in a clarifying matter. But, once I started the process, it seemed to make more sense. Sectioning off my hair, tho, as described, would have been much easier if I'd had a second person to help. As for my specific color formulation -- it was a good, final color...it just didn't "pop" for me. Even my husband made the remark "It looks like what your natural hair color must look like." (We've only been married a year and a half.) And indeed, it looked just like my natural brown. Not only to cover my gray, but I also color my hair to add some oomph to my boring, old brown. My eyes are a light brown, but with a gold to them in the sunlight (per my husband.) So, I try to add some dark red highlights, but not coppery, orange. Hope I can send a picture with this.... Now, 3-4 weeks after my initial use of my personalized formula, I was somewhat disappointed in the short length of time the color stayed. I'm talking within 2 weeks, the gray was already back -- and it was such a sudden change, and enough of it, that I wondered if the color didn't simply coat the hair which abruptly "fell" off. Harsh Chemicals and Wrong ColorMy hair is naturally a golden reddish brown and I decided to change it to a dark browish purple. I was provided a devloper and liquid color. The process is easy and the packaging looks nice. I followed all of the instructions and I've done my hair multiple times by myself. My stylist usually just mixes product for me and I apply it. (she's a close friend) Well I was busy and she was away so I tried this out. When I went to rinse the product my hair felt like straw!!! I had to use my Aveda moisture rich shampoo and deep conditioner right away bc it was super brittle!! I spoke to my stylist and told her what happened and she said IN NO WAY THIS A SALON STYLE PRODUCT. She said this is color from a Sallys or beauty salon. She said they should have only used a 6 on my ends and a 10 on my roots. They used a 20 and now my hair is BLACK. I'm cancelling my next order and will not use them again. I was hoping for moreI've been getting my hair colored for over 30 years, both at home and in a salon. For the past 15 years, it's been exclusively at the salon. Since I'm starting to get grey hair, I wanted to try out the improved at home options. After careful consideration, I selected a color and ordered from eSalon.com. I had considered another brand for at home color, but I found eSalon's questionnaire to be more complete so I felt more confident in getting the right color. The product was packaged beautifully and was shipped quickly. The instructions were detailed and the application wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. When I dried my hair, I would have rated this a 4 star product. Th reason that I'm giving this a one star review is that the colored faded to a "blah" color within a 8 days. I used to wash my hair everyday, but now that I'm getting older, I can easily go every two or three days. I can't even imagine how flat and washed out that the color will be in a few more washes. I was looking for a convenient at home color option to last 6-8 weeks, but this isn't going to work for me. I will likely try the other brand that's been showing up on my Facebook feed for women over 40 to see if their color will last longer. Perhaps with virgin hair this might be a good option, but it wasn't for me. So disappointedI really looked forward to using this. I lost my job and have been cutting out all "luxuries" for myself but wanted to do something to look better and feel better. I sent photos, I explained the condition of my hair and what I wanted. I had gray roots that I wanted covered and I wanted my hair color to be shiny and natural looking. I used it today and could not be more upset. After coloring and using the shampoo and conditioner I couldn't even run my fingers through my wet hair because my hair was so gummy. I rinsed again and again and again, no extra color was coming out. I blowdryed my hair. Just awful. Gummy, matte, ugly. I used my own shampoo and conditioner and finally got my hair back to how it's supposed to feel - soft, swingy, normal. So I spent almost FOUR HOURS on my hair, had to shampoo/condition/dry TWICE, and what do I have now? Roots that are at least 3 shades lighter than my hair and the rest of my hair is a matte dark brown. So I have to go buy a root touch-up - using money I certainly don't have - just to achieve what I bought all of this to achieve: colored roots, colored hair, with shine and attractiveness. AND I got another bottle in the mail and was charged for it because I guess I didn't cancel quickly enough. I am deeply disappointed - I just wanted to do one nice thing for myself so I would at least feel better about myself as I struggle thru a very hard time. Love the idea but not quite rightMy order looked amazing and I couldn't wait to try it. Application - tricky with the bowl and brushes but it was because I'm not used to doing colour that way. The result looked great for about 4 days then greys started to show through and colour lifted so my hair was lighter than I actually wanted. Downhill From HereAfter giving Esalon the opportunity to help me save money I find my hair dulling out very quickly. I use permanent color. Typically my hair feels stronger, silky and has awesome body when freshly colored. I have not had that experience. My hair has no body, dulls quickly and feeds like straw when freshly colored. A little disappointedI've only tried the product once and was shocked when I was finished and carefully started to comb my hair out and a huge chuck of it came out, I had also used a leave in hair treatment that I use after every wash. I'm also surprised at how fast the color fades considering I use very expensive color treated shampoo & conditioner. All my grey is peaking through so I'm going to try the root touch up this one time and see what happens. Great concept, great customer service, poor resultsI really want to love eSalon. It's such a terrific idea. The customer service was super helpful when I contacted them. The color was very different than I expected but that could be the fault of my perception. I was aiming for strawberry blonde & I ended up with dark red. eSalon website has a great FAQ section that I used to get tips on lightening the color. I left the color on the length of my hair for the recommended time (I believe it was 5mins). I started the time once I'd gotten the color distributed throughout. Maybe I was supposed to start it when I put the color on the 1st section..? I have fine hair. I've spent more money on deep conditioners recently that I would've payed my professional colorist to do my hair in the 1st place. It's very strawlike now & I'm doing everything I can to avoid cutting it all off. I look terrible with short hair so this ought to be a fun summer. feedback on colorI just colored my hair last week and concentrated on the part on top of my head and around my face as that's where the majority of the gray resides. I just noticed some gray today! Color Faded Very quicklyEasy to use, gentle on my hair. After only 2 washes with a sulfate free shampoo on lukewarm water all color has left. My hair takes color very well and I followed all instructions. I darkened my hair just slightly and I'm back to original color. Change of colorI requested less red and more golden brown. Although the changes were made as I requested, I wanted more red left in the color. I guess I should have requested "slightly less red". It was as if the red was no longer there although I know that it was still listed on the color formulation. On a good note, I always get lots of compliments on my color, and when I tell people that it is hair color, they are very surprised because it looks so natural!
