I loved the richness of the color and the whole experience from receiving the kit to opening it to using it. The dye does have a strong smell but I am used to other professional lines having that kind of smell also. I discontinued my plan only because I wanted to go lighter than my natural color. This is not possible with only dye because my hair was previously dyed. I will need to bleach it first to remove the dye I have now before applying the new lighter color I want. I will reconsider joining eSalon's monthly plan once I have achieved my desired color. eSalon is perfect for those who don't want to stir away from their current color and just cover greys, or want to slightly change the tone of it (warmer, ashier, etc) or for those who want to go darker.

I am editing this review, I will leave the original below. As frustrating as this has been to have these issues for the second time in recent months, I have to say that eSalons has reached out and is trying their best to resolve this me for. Unfortunately it will probably not be resolved before my trip, but I haven't given up complete hope yet...) eSalons is making every effort they can to get this here in as short of time as possible and they did come up with a suggestion that will help with any future delivery issues.
Original: I have been a client for MANY years and for the most part have had very few issues, but over the last year this is the second time that the delivery has been a major issue. My order was processed on the 4th and shipped on the 5th, but as of today, the 12th (after the mail has arrived) I am still waiting on my order. I had pushed the date up a few days to the 4th so that I could guarantee that I had my order before we left for a trip this coming Friday. However, that is now looking unlikely. I called customer service earlier today only to get NO help and mostly the attitude that she did not care and there was nothing that can be done. I am already upset about the progressivly declining service but this will definitely be my last order if I end up having to go on this trip without have my hair done because you can not figure out how to get a product to a client in over a week now and offer no help to the problem. Too bad your interest is in trying to get customers, not keep a loyal one!
My base color came out a little too dark with just a hint of mahogany red. Although I did not get the desired results, I will continue to use the service and trust the hair color experts of eSalon for my hair color needs.
It was darker than what I thought "beige" would be, but I guess it will fade. I think I would do highlights next time because it looks too fake all dark brown. My opinion.

I purchased my first color selection and it was not that great covering my grays. Color was uneven. I decided to give feedback and colorist put a new formulation together that was much better! Very cool having the ability to talk about my color issues just like you would a brick and mortar salon.
Very easy application. Loved the end result. However, I think the timing was off. A week later the color began to fade at the ends even with the use of the color tint rinse...
Very happy with the color, it did cover my greys. just did it last night and hoping it will last for awhile. I found the product runny and was not happ.y with the brush quality but all in all pretty happy so far
The product instructions dont really allow for enough time to fully penetrate the ends. I followed the instructions and i now have super dark roots and ends that are significantly lighter. Also i feel like the color is much darker then the example i picked out.
Update:
Within a day Karen from the service team contacted me with a solution and were extremely open to my opinion. I feel like my issue will be fixed and esalon will be be my present and future solution for my hair coloring needs. Thank you again.
It was a lot better of a color than i expected considering my track record!

I've always had trouble using box dye as my roots and my ends are always a different color. Sometimes getting significantly hot roots. I almost gave up dying at home completely even though i would love to cover the gray i'm getting at only 26 years old near my temples. I was worried when i read the instructions because i'm basically blind without my glasses and always thought dying roots by themselves would be a nightmare and when i read that the end dye was supposed to be up against but to try not to overlap i honestly was prepared to go get a box of medium brown temp die just in case things went south. Needless to say the process wasn't as bad as i was prepared for it to be and i feel confident i could do it again. The whole thing took about an hour and 15 minutes or so from start to blow dried hair. The color i got was pretty however not exactly as i was hoping ( i was hoping for a lot more copper, which i will add adjustment notes after a week to give things time to lighten up a bit as dye sometimes likes to do) however it was a lot more uniform which i was so pleased to see. I didn't have high hopes because my hair was almost 3 different tones starting off with (about 4 months of virgin hair roots, 4 or so months of roots where color remover was applied but never dyed, and then the rest of the length to the middle of my back was pre dyed hair after a color remover treatment with dye not reapplied). It wasn't exactly what i selected as my ends are still a tad bit darker but it looks natural which is what i wanted and my gray around my temples were covered beautifully. So far i'm very happy and my hair feels amazing after. I'm excited to see if the next application will get me to my goal of a beautiful Irish like medium light red copper brown.
Tried my first time w/Esalon. I dye my own hair. #1, the odor of amonia was very strong (choking strong). I found this to be odd considering store bought brands don't have such an odor. The color was precise & covered my grey. #2, I then thought with the shipping & purchase costs, it was way higher than what i normally spend. I can purchase dye for $5 when i do it myself. So, why do i want to spend up to $30? When i called to cancel my membership the gal i spoke to was very nice, understanding & professional. She offered me one free shipment in a different shade to try once more. Will be delivered soon. I do not believe i will continue with my membership merely for the cost. It also dried the heck out of my hair. Perhaps it is just the type of hair i have bcuz my hair is dry to begin with. However, their Customer Service is wonderful! I would recommend eSalon for people who regularly have their hair professionally dyed. Then, you would save money. All in all, i believe it is a good product & it is great to have an automatic delivery every time you normally color your hair, but the cost with shipping is too high for me when i can color my hair for $5 getting the same results.
the color is awesome, i have only one very small tiny complaint. My hair is very very long and there was not quite enough to completely cover the hair, but the ends are still colored from the last time.. and the color matches extremely well
After 2nd try and timing adjustment, the grey coverage is better. I like the way of my hair feels so soft after coloring. The only thing that I don’t like is the color doesn’t last long which happens with over the counter hair coloring.
The order came in good time. The instructions were concise and the product easy to use. My hair was in very good condition after its use, nice and shiny, not dry like some other similar products. The end result was not as expected, I am now a lot redder than before. It took me by surprise but I am now used to it. It is not a bad colour , just not dark blond pearl. Hence 4 stars and not 5.
I like the color. But didn’t sign up to get it all the time. I just wanted to try it for 5.95 it’s worth it. But regular price not worth it to me. I want my subscription canceled and no future shipments sent. Thank you for ur help MaryLou Marshalsea. 781-588-6665
The mixture was a little runny and was constantly running down my face but was easy to apply and covered my greys very well. Smelt nice and left my hair feeling strong and very shiny
Loved using this color, is was so easy and didn't take hardly anytime. Only issue was I still see some small areas of gray, but I am thinking it is user error!
I have only had positive experience with this product. Only one small suggestion....thicken the formula so that it does not drip while during waiting time prior to shampoo.
All the products themselves are fantastic but the packaging for the shampoo and conditioner needs improving. The last few times I have not been able to open the shampoo with the twist tab. The tab twists off easily but the plastic liner inside is not punctured. I have to either get out if the shower and search for scissors or chew into the lining to rip it open. A full tear strip might be a better solution on those items.
I have been regular customer for four plus years and I will continue to use, my hair does very well, and it’s easy for me. My only wish is that it reduce the waste from packaging, and if it uses any silicon, to eliminate it. I do soda water cleanse on my scalp every few months but the majority of the funk removed is silicon and, it kills so much fish, microbeads are banned in Europe and I don’t want it in my products. I hope they will take on a more eco conscious approach then I will be extremely gratified and happy!
The color works very well with the exception of some of the places at the back of my head that did not cover, the gray for some reason I feel that I covered it very well but it did not grab it for some reason I just have very stubborn greys.
I do like the color but still too dark. I didn’t understand why the different bottles for top and bottom. Were they different shades. Anyway if we could try. Shade lighter. I like the copper.
I enjoyed the rich color and the amount of color I received. The stain remover, stain guard and nicer gloves were all perks I appreciated. The only downside was the product burned my head a little (tingling) during the root application as it said to rub it in....I think it would have been fine, if I didn't rub it into my scalp.
Good color however am disappointed that I must go through 2 seperate processes to acheive coloring. Is it possible to get one color bottle instead of 2 (1st brown, 2nd red hues) as I often only do my roots (final color desired not only brown) with permanant color and then touch up my ends with a coloring hair mask?
The last time I colored my hair, it go really sticky when I was washing it out. This happened the last time for my friend also. In the past this has never happened. The color was ok but I was trying to get more blonde in it. It was still very red.
While the colour change wasn't quite what I was expecting (naturally dark brown with auburn highlights- auburn copper red), it did deposit more red than I expected, and only highlighted the natural auburn red tones I already had even more which looked beautiful.
It wasn't the drastic change I had hoped for initially, but quite honestly I'm happy about that as it may have been too much of a shock for me. The formula had a way of changing my overall hair tone and colour without changing the underlying shade of dark brown- hard to explain but it turned out lovely. Additionally, while my natural hair colour is dark brown with auburn tones, the grow out was barely noticeable even with all the red! It melded in with the new colour in such a way that only if you really looked up close could you notice any regrowth at my roots- even after several weeks!
As a newbie with virgin hair ( I say this respectfully because it's been literally 20 years since any dye has touched my locks), I was hesitant but felt like I needed a bit of a change. My main concern other than that the suggested colour would look garish on me and fry my long wavy locks, was quickly banished when I saw a beautiful auburn red deposited throughout my strands. The formula is amazing, didn't fry my hair AT ALL, and my hair felt so silky when all was said and done!
I'm not sure I'll continue to colour my hair long term as I am starting to miss my original hair colour, but if you're thinking of trying eSalon and are nervous- don't be! Just upload a good pic of yourself and work with a personal consultant to get the perfect shade for you! If you don't like it you're free to make any changes to your hair colour! Five star rating and two big thumbs up!
I’ll be honest. I haven’t used it yet. It’s an awesome set up. Love everything in the box. The instructions kind of freaked me out. “Don’t do this or that”. I’ve colored my hair for years using store bought Revlon. I kind of start at the back and squish it all over my head. No root work no separate sections. What should I do?

I loved the color but just didn't like the fact that you had to do part of your hair with one dye and the ends of you hair with other dye. Not worth the price for me!
I really liked the color and softness of my hair afterwards - but the process - for me - was messy. I did blob some on my vanity and will have to paint it to cover up my mess.
While the condition of my hair is now wonderful. The colour does not have the reddish tones I desired.
The product is brilliant and I am sure it can be adjusted slightly to get the shade I desire.
I only gave it four stars because as much as I like it I think I had an allergic reaction to it. My scalp, ears and neck are really red, itchy and it hurts. I did not have a reaction until I was rinsing it. The colour was really pretty and very easy to apply. The instructions and videos were really easy to follow.
The new color was definitely NOT as black as the previous one. It covered what it needed to and looked more reddish than black. I'm not sure if there is an in-between color from the first and the second, because that would probably be perfect.
I'd love it the color it really suit my face and style and is very easy to use but the Shampoo it didn't clean at all my hair and I was afraid why my hair looks still sticky despite I washed three times and nothing was off after I waited for a few hours and I washed again with my products and the result was very different.......
The color and the coverage was amazing. It looks good still! The only thing I would suggest is maybe finding something to add to the formula for the smell. Those chemicals are always smelly.
I was very happy to see how professional the packaging was when it arrived. I have very long hair so needed help in application. It was an easy process to follow using the video guides. The only slight drawback was the residue left after using the shampoo and conditioner supplied. My hair felt very "squeaky" and did not dry. I washed it again, in fact several times, before it felt clean but i am more than happy with the results.. My sister who helped me, is ordering herself a colour soon!
The color was much darker than I expected but I got used to it. One thing I do not like is that the color did not hold on the gray hair on my temples. Looks awkward and do not want to color my hair again since the rest has faded to a good color.
The color was great but it didn't cover all the gray. It was harder for me to do with the brush .Because my hair is thick. I don't know if I will order more.
I have always been on top of my hair color (even more so now that the silvers show up a lot faster). I actually found out about this place from Pinterest and because I was spending 25.00ish for hair color at ULTA anyways, I decided to give it a whirl. The colors are so vibrant...and they fade but it takes a lot longer it seems. I even skipped my esalon color and went with the Madison Reed color that I had purchased before I found out esalon AND THERE WAS A DISTINCT DIFFERENCE in the texture of my hair after coloring and the color itself. I found myself coloring my hair three weeks later because of that.
I also wanted to see how easy it was to adjust my color (I did this with my last order) and really just to change things up a bit. I got the email saying that my order was about to ship and I had 'X' number of days to modify my color. I didn't have to log into the website! I was able to reply to the email which made things even more convenient and although I have yet to color my hair with my adjusted color, I was impressed.
We're living on one income and this is the best way to color your hair! Hands Down!
I found the colour blended in well on my roots and gave a very natural look. The only thing i found was that the product was very difficult to wash and rinse out.
I bought your product and it covered my hair great but disappointed at how fast the gray hairs came through I was expecting it to last at least 10 weeks like it said but it didnt. Your website completely satisfied or money back how does that happen and am I notified
Love the color. Excited to see how long it will last. Conditioner that came with the kit didn’t work at all on my long curly hair and made it feel like straw, took me a good 15 minutes to comb through it . Not sure what to do about that part.
I loved everything about the product but, the biggest difference for me was gray coverage. Store-bought color either didn't cover the gray or it was visible again after a week. I used my color from esalon about 3 weeks ago and still no visible grays!!!
I like the color. However, I applied it all over rather than just touching up my roots. Now my ends are darker. I failed to go on to the website to read the specifics of application. I assume it would be indicated in the package that was mailed to me. Now the golden tips I organically did, with my first application are gone. What should I do next? How can I get a hold of my stylist? Thank you.
I have had my hair done from a box off the shelf to buying it from a beauty supply to getting it professionally done. I have a lot of grey and the color they matched me with looks awesome even better than when I have had my hair done at the salon. But I only did my roots and after using the shampoo and conditioner there was a buildup on my hair that I had to use my regular shampoo and conditioner the next day to get it out. I don't usually wash my hair the day after I get it done but my hair felt horrible. I'm hoping I won't have this problem the next time I use it since I love the convience and price!
I have natural hair and went to a salon several months ago to color. They did such an awful job that I immediately got braids to cover it up. I kept the braid style for six months ... but eventually wanted to wear my hair out again.... and it had grown quite a bit! Now I had 3 hair tones , my natural dark brown at new growth , the ugly color from before and lots of grey! A mess. I decided to try e-salon. I answered all questions on profile about my hair and then voila! My color came. I followed the directions exactly ... it was not difficult. I absolutely love my color now....
I like my ash blonde, but I think I am going to try their light brown next time and see if I like it. Their color keeps my gray covered where the store bought color does not.
My hair is now like silk instead of the crunchy, dry hair it was from the dyes you can get at grocery and department stores. And the color is gorgeous!! Now if it only came with someone to do the application at the back of my head...
Love how it covers the grays... even tho i didnt have a lot of grays just streaks so cant say how it wld be on more grays and loved how the color popped after wards.. but did feel a bit hard at first then after two or three washes, soften up and really did make my hair shine and i get compliments even tho i didnt do much to my hair! Try it if you havent!
The color was good but the root coverage didn't seem to last as long as my prior color. The ammonia smell went down into my lungs when I was rinsing my hair off an almost asphyxiated me. I used it in my open kitchen but when rinsing my hair it was overpowering.
I love that product arrives when I want it in the post. The package/ instructions are great. The color is great but makes me look pale.. this is more my problem than the product. I need to work out what to do. Grey coverage is good but my hair is quite dry since using it and I need to do hair masks more often
Wanted this formula to be a rich brown and it was however - my roots are lighter than the rest of my hair. Not sure if I should have left it on longer in the root area.

I have used this product several times now, and although the colour is lovely and smells great, it fades incredibly quickly. My roots start to show again in about 10 days and for the rest of the month I look like I have untidy hair. Fading in the rest of my hair shows quite reddish undertone which doesn't really go with the professional look I am trying to maintain. I am contemplating on cancelling my subscription as this is expensive and doesn't provide as good a cover as my previous supermarket brand did for a fraction of the price.
Edit: After colour adjustment I have a lovely new shade, and also tried to highlight kit which is marvellous! I have a better result than I have ever had in a salon, for fraction of the time and money.
I’ve been using the same color for about 1.5 years and have been very pleased with the results. The last order I received and applied in November seemed to wash out at the roots within a week. I have dark hair and a few grays that are noticeable at the top roots. Not sure why the color didn’t stick around this time around, as I applied the same as in the past. I just changed my order to arrive two weeks earlier, but don’t feel that’s any solution.
