Pros: * the survey questions at the website are very especific, so they get a better understanding of your hair without actually having to go there. * Their detailed instructions are so helpful. * There were two bottles, one for the roots and another one for the ends. * I like it when I'm giving detailed information, and this kit explained the percentage of brown, violet and gold tint on each bottle.
Cons: * although the first kit was only $10 + shipping, the second kit is $20 + shipping and it's only for the roots. * There were too much left overs from the roots bottle, and the instructions clearly explained that applying it to the ends would left your hair with darker results ... :/ ... I hate wasting anything. * I wish the gloves were longer, although I always get my hand stained, I hate having stains in my forearms.
Overall is a very rich natural looking brown color, I'll keep with this one during the fall and winter.
This is the 3rd kit I received. The color had to be tweaked a few times and it now matches my natural color perfectly! Great gray coverage and easy to apply. The only downside is that the odor is really strong in the shower when you are refreshing the ends.
Like others have posted, rinsing the color is difficult as your hair tends to matte together in a slippery wad with this hair color. I ordered your shampoo and conditioner and still have the same results no matter what shampoo I'm using. I've used Esalon hair color off and on since 2014. Something has changed with this product --- I never noticed this problem previously.

My ends and roots are 2 different colors. It's been 12 days since I colored my hair and you can barely tell that I did anything to it. My Ends are extremely dry now.
The only reason I gave 4 stars is my 1st color came in a little darker than I expected but all my reds usually do. I always have to go through 1 darker shade before the color specialist understands I want a lighter strawberry blonde. Otherwise the color turned out perfect for the shade they sent. The application process was easy. I recommend getting the toolkit with your 1st order. It helped me a great deal. The step by step sheet they provided me with times for each step was awesome. Forever I have always dyed my hair all over then let it set 45 min. Not with this product. It has you dye roots first, let it set... then your ends, let it set. Then use the rest of the juice and rub it all together and let it set again. then shower. The shampoo and conditioner they provide are great products. They also provided a stain prevention cream and a stain removal wipe. Oh and not to forget the gloves. And did they just throw them all in a box? No... they all came in their own separate boxes. Perfectly wrapped like packages. I was impressed. It was so professional. All for a low cost (well the kit was extra).
It's a long story: basically, I came back to using eSalon after a long hiatus. Last year, I used eSalon after being dye free for YEARS! I was strawberry blonde as a kid, it faded to dark blonde, and I've been trying to color it copper off and on ever since. I loved my results, but was disappointed with how fast it faded. I decided to venture out and find other colors by other companies. Some produced nice color, but we're too harsh on my scalp! When I tried gentler, ammonia-free formulas, the inconsistent color forced me to wear beanies until it faded! I have finally come back to what I knew worked so well for me. I adjusted my color to make for an even more vibrant, rich red than I had before. My hair looks beautiful! It also evened out the previous coloring mishaps still showing on my head! Also, I don't know if the formula has changed since the last time I used it, but it has much better staying power than before as well! I'm pleased with my pumpkin spice hair, and I hope to keep it going for the foreseeable future!❤️
Although the color worked really well in terms of coverage, it’s not necessarily the shade I was looking for and my hair feels like there’s a small amount of residue, which should fade soon.
I like the color. I love the presentation and the step by step directions. The color dries my hair out though. I’ve tried ultra conditioning it, but it hasn’t helped. Unfortunately I may have to give up on esalon. It would be great if they could come up with a conditioner they could add to the color so my hair doesn’t feel like straw when I’m done.

I wish this set came with more shampoo and conditioner. Also the shade is a little darker than the sample. I need to adjust the shade to be lighter. At least two shades lighter to match my color.
Love the new shade. But the new bottle is too hard to squeeze with one hand can you reduce the thickness or strength of the plastic as I do not want to use a bowl and brush to colour my hair.
I thought it was permanent hair color. I waited three days to wash my hair and when I did all my beautiful copper came out of my hair I would love to send you picture somehow.
eSalon listened to what I asked for and even asked some follow-up questions before making my color. The color is beautiful. Unfortunately, I can no longer use this product due to an ammonia allergy. I will still highly recommend this product to others who do not have an allergy (which is pretty much everyone).
I finally used my color kit yesterday and love the color that was made for me. Just enough red to not be brown. The only problem I had was the chemical smell. I have very long hair and my roots had grown out about 3 to 6 inches, depending on the section, so it took me a little longer to get the dye applied to the roots. I won't wait such a long time between dyes again so the roots won't be so long. I plan to go a little lighter every 5th or 6th dye as I am getting more grey and want to go grey without a great shock. Then I can decide if I want to keep coloring or not.
I've been using esalon for probably 5+ years and love it, but as others have mentioned in previous posts, the formula has changed. To remove the product from your hair is really difficult and has been for the last 2-3 times that I've used it. This was not the case before. There is not enough shampoo provided to remove all of the sticky, icky feeling residue.
I don't like the product. It's very oily and difficult to rinse from hair. Requires 3 washings and a bunch of hair loss to get the stuff out. I have plenty for now as do the 10 min root touchups in between.
Not sure the color is lasting but after three weeks I see grey. Could be growth but the color looks to be a little lighter after 3 weeks of wash and grows on my fine curly hair. I cowash so no sulfate or harsh ch Micah's so I a, not sure what is going on.
Love the color. Over the course of 2 years I’ve had 4 different formulas trying to find the perfect fit. I’ve figured out I have one I love for summer and slightly darker shade for fall and winter. It would be nice if I could personalize my color with a nickname so I didn’t have to guess which one is which.
Unfortunately, on my last order the hole on the bottle of developer was so small I couldn’t get anything out. I had to cut the tip off to apply. I haven’t experienced that before.
Side note. The new dusty pink shampoo and conditioner packaging is NOT getting a thumbs up from me. It reminds me of something you would get at a cheap hotel. Or a ‘90’s Mary Kay bottle that has been sitting on a shelf. The color is still great but you lost style points.
Love the colour and customer service very helpful. Only one thing negative is the fact even after adding water and massaging for 3 mins still have to wash my hair 3 times because of the awful stickiness from the colour
Been using eSalon color and will never go back to department store color. Been having issues with stubborn greys showing up 2 weeks after coloring. Last month again. had to use 1 full can of grey away to cover greys around hairline (temple areas top of hairline). End of 3rd week and through 4th week for color fading as well. The reason I continue to buy, is bc of color match to natural hair color.
I have to say that I like the overall outcome of the eSalon product. However, I did not like the smell! It came across as a harsh product by the smell and felt like I was putting a lot of chemicals on my head (probably was :(). I did not experience this with Madison Reed whose product was pleasant to smell. Now as to the color, much prefer eSalon. Madison Reed's product continued to wash out with every shampoo even though it was a permanent color. I have washed my hair for the first time since coloring with eSalon and there wasn't even a tint of color that came out of my hair :). Within 2-3 weeks of coloring with Madison Reed, I was a washed out version of my original color. Both seemed to cover gray well. I'm going to give eSalon another try and have decided to try the highlighting kit next time around.
The color that was sent to me was very close to what I was looking for. The only problem was as I washed my hair after coloring, it got a little too red. Taking some of the red out will make it perfect.
This is my second time ever coloring my hair. The first time was grocery store box color that only covered my gray hair for a few weeks. I do not have a lot of grays, but this color did cover them all. I definitely noticed a buildup that was difficult to wash out. I was in a hurry so I ended up leaving it wet and not washing it again until the next day. I got most of it out the second wash with a little bit of a greasy feel left. However, I do love the look and would purchase again.
But already my hair is getting lighter so going forward I'll have to get two bottles to not only do the roots but the full length of the hair as well and perhaps leave in longer than directed
The hair mid shaft has a ring around my entire head that is lighter ( my old highlights) so my root and ends match well but it didn’t cover the highlights which was fine at first not as noticeable and looked just like color variations in the same shade but after about 2 weeks the color started to fade and I noticed the ring or band that that was lighter . No big deal my hair didn’t fall out it ! Lol my gray is pretty hard to cover too so it started to show after about 2~ 3 weeks . I do shampoo daily and shower often twice a day but only shampoo 1 time . So if we need to adjust formula- I’m game . What ever the pro recommends .
I love the color and it covered the gray! The only issue I had was getting the color in areas I can not see so it's best to have some one who can help you.
I have a box of the old color that was too red, can I return it? I won't ever use it. I really love what you did with my new color; more brunette and less copper/red ! Even my husband noticed. Because my hair is so short my daughter used small pieces of sandwhich twist ties to separate my hair, it worked great but I looked like one of the Little Rascels. Please let me know what I can do with old color. If I can't return it maybe you can make up a color to add to it to fade the copper and red and bring out the brunette. I love this product. Thanks for everything ! You are great!

They color is so-so, but my hair feels like wax afterwards. The shampoo probably takes some of it out, but the conditioner makes it even worse! Don't plan on leaving your house the day you color your hair. UPDATE: I received directions from eSalon on how to get the color all out of my hair, and the problem I had before has been fixed. The color this time is one of the best I have ever had. I didn't do such a great job with Bottle #2, but that is my fault. I have asked to have that bottle shipped to me again so I can do better with it next time.
Overall I would give 5 stars for color and grey coverage. Very nice!

I absolutely LOVE my custom colour!!
I started going grey at 21. Before that I had naturally black hair, but it wasn’t jet black, it was a ‘soft black’ like the colour of charcoal. But black off-the-shelf box dyes ALWAYS turned my hair jet black which looked unnatural and harsh. I’m almost completely deaf so going to a hair salon is very frustrating for me as I have to endure a constantly misheard and repetitive conversation with the hairdresser or sit there in an awkward silence. One time I went to a hairdresser I went with a photo of my natural soft black hair and even then it came out jet black (having paid £50).
This hair dye got me back to my natural colour and it wasn’t too distressing on my natural ringlets. But I was seriously impressed with the colour. I FINALLY have my ‘light black’ hair again.
I’m a 29 year old male so if there are any guys reading this, I strongly recommend this brand if you are going grey and are undecided on dying your hair or are too self conscious to buy a dye in a shop/go to a hairdresser.
It has given me an advantage at work too. At 29 years old, I’ve just recently passed the age at which most guys begin going grey/bald. When I’m in a meeting at work, usually a female member of staff compliments my black curly hair but then a few male staff usually chime in with how lucky I am to still have “a full head of hair that is t going grey” :D
Almost the right colour for my roots... Very good will definitely order again just beware of the very strong chemical smell... Make sure you have good ventilation
Have been using this for months. Covers grey well. Only complaint I have is that I have long, thick hair and there isn’t enough product to cover endsand scalp
I started coloring my hair myself 2 yrs ago. My sister recommended Garnier so I used it too. My gray is all at the front. Within several days I could always see a gray line forming...drove me nuts😫 This doesn’t happen with eSalon! Some how the color “sticks” much better. And the videos made all the diff in my self confidence!!!
The color you get is nice, however it can be messy, I would suggest having a pro do it, the tips you receive with one visit isn't enough. Again nothing wrong with the color itself.
If you are not happy with your color, they will change it. If you are not ready to dye your hair, you can cancel a month until you are ready. They have so many other hair products that are wonderful.
The colour is just right. The right amount of golden which is a good thing as unfortunately the colour has started to fade after the second wash but have left my greys with a sun-kissed golden colour.
I like that there is more color mixture so there's plenty to do even a long hair style. It covered my gray very well. I'm waiting to see how it lasts.
I wish there were a shower cap in the package to cover your hair while processing. They include an application brush and I don't see the point in that. If someone wants that they would have a bowl and brush. You sure don't need to receive one with every box, that's just wasteful because all those unneeded brushes are going in the trash.
The colour is very natural and covers grey hair perfectly. The product doesn't stain much on skin and it is easy to use. The only drawback is that it is quite irritating on my skull skin.
My colour had been gaining different tones and behaviours during the recent hot Spring and Summer here in the UK so adjusting my custom hair colour to take into consideration the influence of sun and sea was a very positive decision.
I feel the team listened to what I was attempting to portray in an email as to my worries and dislike of the current colour and sent me the most fabulous adjustments in August; unfortunately I did not use until recently as I wanted to avoid colouring in the extreme heat we have been having and to give my hair a 'rest'.
The brassy look has all but disappeared, my grey never really disappears but with the new colour it has 'toned' in to a better effect, making my hair look 'natural' and my accepting the aging process with grace!
I think the strawberry blonde color is rich and beautiful. I followed the directions to the letter but have to admit doing just the roots first is difficult for me especially in the back of my head. I have a few places which I did not get covered properly so I will have to work harder to ensure I do not miss any roots. Thinking of having my sister do the roots next time. Will perfect the process but first I need to see how this color lasts over the next four weeks.
I loved the color when I first applied my formula, but was disappointed when I washed it for the first time. The color was considerably lighter. I tried to order the rinse but it was out of stock.
The color covered all the gray. It was a little darker than I would have preferred, overall I am happy with the results. There was a little more ammonia smell than I like. Simple process. Maybe put 2 of the color remover pads in the package. One just barely got all the spots on my skin.
Im not happy with my color still and it's been an adjustment trying to get the color I requested. My color is darker than what my original color was, which I don't like!. However, esalon was willing to send me two free shipments of color to accommodate the color change...even though the color is still wrong! Way darker. I do appreciate that at least. I also like that esalon color does cover my grey hair longer and better than store bought brand lorel I used before esalon. I will continue to try esalon for that main reason and hopefully they can get the color correct. I do feel since the 100% satisfaction guarantee is stated, I had hoped they would honor that and they don't!. I was told the incorrect color match is not esalon fault as it is a gradual process to try and get the correct color im asking for???
I did the online quiz and uploaded a picture. Was contacted that it was recommended I go no more than 2 shades darker . I was good with just doing two shades. So glad I didn’t go any darker. It’s really dark. I like it but the whole family was shocked.
