Amazing quality, super helpful instructions and video, easy to use, perfect result. There is a small But - i’ve got a lot of hair and it was not enough with one pack. I’ve managed to scrape last bits and pieces, but should be considered when you order. Next time will get 2 boxes.

My First Time Trying Home Balayage and it was So EASY

I spent $250 on bad salon cut and color and vowed never again. I thought I couldn't do much worse at home. It was worth a shot to try.
I got the light blonde Light Set and started the process as soon as it arrived at my door. I watched a bunch of how-tos on youtube and in the end I give myself a B+ for my inaugural effort.
Like some other first-timers, the top of my head is a little blotchy. My side part made that final sectioning a little tricky. Next time I'll pull further from the part before adding the color, and really make sure I do a very sharp angle with the product.
Overall the Light Set far exceeded my expectations. I've sent photos of my color to everyone I know and they're blown away. They can't believe I did it myself.

I waited two days after my overall color and then did the highlights. I was terrified that I was going to mess it up, but it turned out great! My hair looks very natural and I think the color and highlights makes me look younger, which never hurts!

I have used lightner before and they had a nice wet texture. Easy to spread on hair but is stuff dries out on the hair in a few minutes and is chunky. Very hard to work with. I have long hair and there was barely enough to finish. Nice suble color though.

The first color wasn't exactly what I wanted. Esalon adjusted my formula so the next colour batch was more what I was hoping for. I have already recommended eSalon to friends.

I purchased this set thinking that I could get blonde highlights (even though my hair is DARK). WELL, the first strand I completed turned blonde while the rest was orange/copper and very shimmery under a fluorescent light. I’m not sure how much time was between starting with my first strand to ending with my last strand, but I did add an extra 5 minutes to the 30 min recommendation. There is also enough product for JUST highlights…
I definitely didn’t know what I was doing so my recommendations are:
1. Don’t lie about what your current hair color is
2. Have someone help you
3. Follow the directions (separate sections AND balayage instructions)
4. MAKE SURE TO WRING OUT HAIR when putting on toning mask (as to not dilute the solution; perhaps get another bottle)
5. Not recommended for all-over color substitution nor short hair (pixie cuts)

I used as directed (instructions with eSalon are EXCELLENT). I could see the first highlights turning ORANGE... I didn't want that to happen to the crown and front of my head!!! So I did not leave it on a full half hour after I finished painting the last highlight. I'm so glad I didn't wait. The highlights underneath were a bright orange.
I styled my hair trying to hide the bad highlights.
BUT - I was able to cover this up a lot as I used a tint rinse from eSalon and leftover toner so I've been using those to mask the orange which has worked.
Very strange because this was the 4th procedure in a row that I've done with eSalon so they have a record of my hair situation.
I'm not completely turned off eSalon though... I hate going to the salon because it takes 3+ hours. I will probably try something else with eSalon.

Before applying this I called eSalon to ask how many shades my hair would lighten from the chemical process. I was concerned about going too light. I told the colorist I was thinking of washing it out in half the recommended time and she informed me it would lighten a Max of three shades. I ended up keeping an eye on it and at 15 minutes I turned almost blond. I have dark brown hair. I had a heart attack. The toner only made the hair turn orange/copper. I look like a red headed Cruella Deville. Now I have to go to a real salon and get my hair fixed by a professional. Not cool eSalon. I want my money back.

Absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever done to my hair. The way they tell you to apply and time it leaves the bottom and middle layer processing longer so those areas are yellow — and the top is extremely brassy orangey awfulness. I thought since they formulated the base this would be something to complement it. I followed the instructions to the letter. Now I’ll be going to Sally to get a Demi color to try and mask it until my regular hair dresser has an appointment 5 weeks from now. This is going to end up being a very expensive fix. I don’t see a place for me to upload a photo …. Do not recommend if you have dark hair. My daughter has dark blonde / light brown hair and I added a few pieces around her face with the leftover — hers is cute but she’s got virgin light hair to start…. Not for dark hair …. Maybe not even for dark color treated hair ….

A little Scared at first

So I colored my hair on Saturday and I was very hesitant to do the highlights. But I did on Sunday. It was pretty simple but I saw my first strips becoming very blonde and I got scared so 15 minutes after my last strip I washed it off. So glad I did because the first strip was very blonde. But all in all I love the color.

The first time I highlighted my hair, I felt like it was too much, especially around the root area. This time, I used a light touch and blended more to the natural lines of my hair. I love it! It looks very natural. So glad I tried it a 2nd time. I loved the way the Toning Mask made my hair feel. Hoping I can use it for a once a month conditioning mask.

There is definitely a knack to getting the technique right with this. I watched the ‘how to’ video first & followed the instructions. The back looks OK but the side bits are far too light and it has ruined the texture of my hair, making it puffy & parched. I think the processing time was too long for my hair.

I’ve been using the custom colour for the whole of lockdown and love it so decided to give the highlights a go, following the video tutorial stage by stage. Absolutely gutted. Left with bright orange stripes in my long, very dark brown hair. I look horrific. Seriously contemplating shaving my head.

Loving my new highlights - so easy to do & especially love that they are the perfect ‘light’ for my custom colour. Even my husband noticed (had to teach him a new phrase - multi tonal!)

It did lighten but to a super brassy orange color. It looked so terrible. Not at all what I was hoping. I’ve basically have been wearing a hat ever since I did it till I figure out what to do. I was sent a toner and it worked somewhat. But I’m skeptical about doing bayalage like this again.

I had used the medium blonde light set the previous two times, but I decided to try the light blonde light kit this time since the medium didn’t lighten my naturally medium blonde hair as much as I’d like. This did the trick! I wish I had a little more color to mix later on, though, since I always seem to chicken out when I reach the top layer, and don’t add enough highlights closer to my roots. It turned out beautifully, though.

I tried the light set for the first time and it came with everything that I needed and excellent instructions. I found that I didn't do the steps fast enough for some parts of my hair and I got some brassy results. The stylist that I talked to suggested a color change and a new tint rinse and my hair looks great.

Fun doing it, I did a full overall highlight. I tried putting more highlights around my part... Some pieces didn't turn out as great. Make sure spread it on evenly coating to get full coverage. I am going for a second try... Through practice it will get better

I have medium to dark brown hair and I bought the highlights that was suggested for my hair color. It turned out AWEFUL. It was way to blonde. It looked so bad. Lucky I had a soft medium brown store bought hair color and I immediately colored all the highlights. When I was done it looked much better but you could still see some blonde in my hair. With the highlights I watched the videos a few times and read the instructions because I was really scared to do this. Now I know I’ll never ever buy this again. A waste of my money and a $3.00 box color fixed it.

I have VERY dark brown hair and have been using a dark hair colour from esalon for years very confidently. I decided to try the light set for dark brunette and followed the instructions to the letter only to be left with brassy orange highlights. I wish I had checked how the colour was changing rather than trust that 35 minutes was the correct timings. I see from other reviews that others have done this successfully. Esalon are sending me a semi permanent colour to correct it but I am not kidding when I say I cannot leave the house looking like this and it could take five to seven days to arrive. I just recommend you be very cautious with your timings to avoid being left in this predicament.

I'm south Asian with Dark brown hair and have been desperate for highlights for over a year. I didn't want to pay ridiculous amounts to go to a salon and was ecstatic when I came across this. I got my sister to brush them on as I wear glasses and can't see without them, and she found the process very straightforward. The only negative is that the smell of the mixture is quite strong and It triggered a migraine which I had for the rest of the day. Nonetheless, when I washed it out, I couldn't contain my excitement at seeing dark blonde highlights. The toning was straightforward and I couldn't stop smiling everytime I looked in the mirror.

I was surprised how easy it was to apply and how great it came out, even on my first try! My husband said it made me look younger and my sister thought I looked more tanned. I should have done this sooner.

I reached out to inquire about this product and decided to purchase based on the info provided, product description, and how-to videos. It turned out just plain awful. The "highlights" are orange streaks that look terrible. I feel like I look like Tigger. I will definitly not purchase again and wish I would not have wasted the money the first time. I am pretty sure I am going to need to go to a salon and cough up the money to have color repair done.

Worked great!! I have rather short fine hair, so dividing pieces is quite a wrestling match. I thought my sections/slices were maybe too thick. And I was concerned that it got all over the place. And, unlike longer hair, if I did only 2 layers, it would be super obvious. So at the end, I lightly ‘dry’ brushed the tips. Gave a nice transition. Also, I have a Mirrorcle—-a mirror on a flexible cable that goes over your head—works perfectly to work with the back of your head—worth every penny.

All I accomplished was putting swaths of bleach over my base color. Should have left it alone. Even with foils or a cap, the bleach resulted in that reddish brown bleached look, not blonde and certainly not light. The powder that was supposed to be incorporated into the developer occupied by volume twice the space. Never got it "creamy" Best I could do was a texture that resembles pie crust before you add the tablespoon of water.

The amount of lightener provided isn't enough for my thick mid-length hair. I have to buy two, which at double the price isn't much cheaper than what I'd pay at a salon for a professional job without any effort.
Please think about increasing the amount of product so I can justify the expense of continuing to use it.

I added highlights to blend with the highlights in my extensions. At first they did not seem like light enough but when I went out in the sun after a few days, they looked beautiful. I definitely would take smaller pieces to highlight so it looked a little more less chunky but that was on me.

Turned my hair NEON ORANGE! Can't get a refund!

Biggest mistake of my life! I foolishly tried Light Set twice. First time, it turned my medium brown hair BRIGHT NEON ORANGE. I contacted eSalon and they recommended the purple Tint Rinse in conjunction with the Light Set next time for better results.
So fast forward 3 months. After having to dye my hair back to brown at my own expense, I reordered the Light Set and Tint Rinse (I'm an idiot for trying this again, I know). I re-watched all the YouTube videos and instructions, and very carefully applied the Light Set and waited the 30 minutes. BRIGHT ORANGE again!! I followed with the recommended Tint Rinse and it did absolutely nothing except form a huge lather that really dried my hair out and made it feel like straw.
I contacted eSalon about their 100% guarantee but they said NO! They refunded me the first time, and even though an eSalon rep suggested I try it again with the Tint Rinse, they would not honor their guarantee anymore.
The eSalon rep did not inform me before I repurchased that they only honor their satisfaction guarantee ONE time. I am so saddened by the lack of customer service! I feel like eSalon tricked me into repurchasing not only another Light Set, but also the Tint Rinse, and now they won't honor their satisfaction guarantee.
So basically I paid eSalon $60 to turn my hair NEON ORANGE and also damage it. And now I need to spend even more money to get it fixed.
Moral of the story: eSalon's satisfaction guarantee doesn't always apply, so buyer beware. Light Set product turned my hair NEON ORANGE even with the Tint Rinse. I do not recommend it! I guess if something seems to good to be true, it probably is. So upset.

I have always gone to a salon to get highlights and have really felt the lack over the last year. While my roots have been doing great because of eSalon, I was starting to feel my hair was colour blocked into light tips and darker roots. The highlighting kit fixed that!
I didn't follow the suggested application 100% - as I have curly hair I decided not to brush my hair first but to colour some strands following my natural curl pattern (using the hair sectioning/ horseshoe method in the instructions). It worked really well and I feel I have very natural looking sun-kissed highlights now :-)

I love this and doing it myself has gone well. The instructions are very helpful to do a nice at home balayage. I just find myself brassy and needing extra toner and leaving this toner on 3x longer than instructed.

Shade is perfect however the color fades rather quickly and because my hair is so fine and I only wash it once a week it fades rather quickly.

Des difficultés à appliquer seule , le cheveu a coloré très vite. En cas d''erreur lors de l' application j'aurais eu du mal à rattraper. Le ton de couleur était trop claire pour moi j'aurai du prendre une teinte plus foncé. Pouvez vous me conseiller pour la prochaine fois.
